Just let Caleb Mueller’s glitchy pop melt over you synapses with the knowledge that his beats and music are made of the stuff of life.  The pops, hisses, and electrical interference of everyday living are the basis for his music, masterfully edited into beats.

The Weight-The Band

This is one of the greatest songs written of all time.  There is something about the voice of Levon Helm.  Plus he is a singer/drummer who doesn’t suck!  That is a hard thing to come by.

This song is a great example of a folk song.  It tells a great story that you can relate to.  Good job guys.  Check out Levon’s latest solo release, The Dirt Farmer.  Old guys can still rock.

My Morning Jacket- Librarian

I have been stuck on this song lately.  Their latest release (Evil Urges) was spectacular.  They have a very hard rock mixed with southern rock sound, and they mix those two very well.  Jim James has a beautifully distinct voice, and the rest of the band contributes amazing harmonies laid above their intricate noise rock.

Enjoy!

If you are anything like me, you collect music and then let a good portion of it collect dust.  That is not to say that I don’t appreciate the music, but rather that I have a real job, that really takes up my time.

So I finally got around to listening to this song, album.  Gotta say.  I liked it.            But then The Apostle of Hustle, has always had a soft, non-bruised part of my heart.

This song is certainly part of the great tradition of writing songs about prostitutes.  It has some of what I love about the Velvet Underground in it.  Certainly part of the vocal styling.

This online music video blog has a very interesting premise.  Get famous musicians, and make them play a few songs in an elevator.  Most of these bands sound great in the videos despite being in an elevator.  Check it out on Youtube, there are plenty of great videos.

In no other composers work do I find such inspiration.  Copland’s music speaks to deep seated optimism that is a part of the American psyche.  Copland was a life long progressive, and worked with some the greatest progressive artists of his day. (Odets, Graham) In his work you can hear the vast panoramic landscapes of this country, and the common values of a people.  His work embodied the people, not the powerful.  Copland was a genius and truly in tune with the soul of America
